Take Tel Aviv. Stretched along a strip of the Mediterranean, it's Israel's largest city. As such, it's home to the country's biggest commercial district and offers a wonderful combination of entertainment, shopping centres, markets and nightlife. But there's also far more to Tel Aviv – not only is the city itself a World Heritage site, but it also boasts a range of museums, galleries and theatres. Add to the mix the fantastic beach with an equally fantastic array of watersports and marine life, and you've got the makings of a top drawer city break.

Then of course, there's Jerusalem. Located high in the Judean hills, Israel's capital needs little introduction to those with spiritual and historical interests. Divided into three sections – the Old City, New City and East Jerusalem, the city's integral to the beliefs of not only Christians and Jews, but also Muslims. Many of the religious landmarks are found in the Old City, but don't be fooled, there's more to this place than those on a pilgrimage. Fantastic architecture, wonderful scenery and it's renowned golden limestone all leave a lasting impression.

Or, for something completely different, why not take a city break to Haifa? It's the country's third largest city, sandwiched between the Mediterranean and Carmel mountain. Because of this, it's a hilly place offering breathtaking views. Elsewhere, you'll find a tremendous variety of things to do, ranging from the Cave of Elijah – the prophet in both Judaism and Islam, to numerous museums and authentic falafel counters and Arabic restaurants.
