Digital Posters mean a futuristic look for the high street

Mary Portas, Queen of Shops will be impressed with Thomson’s new look shop windows for its retail outlet in Chester.  The shop will be utilising new technology to create the first Thomson digital window.  Two large digital posters will dominate the shop’s window and it will mean waving ‘goodbye’ to paper posters, handwritten notices and general paper clutter.  These digital wonders will generate plenty of attention with their futuristic new look.    Not only will Thomson be waving goodbye to the old cluttered shop window, but will be saying ‘hello’ to being GREEN… saving loads of trees by cutting out unnecessary paper usage.  Hooray!

The ground breaking 42” Sunlight LCD Digital Poster is unlike standard LCD Displays and Plasma Screens because they work in direct sunlight and are 5 times brighter than a standard LCD.  It is also the first ever to be installed in the UK.  Remote Media, who developed this poster and the communication to update it claim ‘you only need a power socket and a mobile phone signal to run this Digital Signage network'.

Doug Glenwright, Marketing Manager Customer Experience, says, "In a busy city like Chester it’s difficult to grab the attention of passers by.  And when we do, we’ll only have a matter of seconds to get our message across.  These digital posters will help to reduce the clutter of the traditional travel agent windows by displaying only two messages at any one time and changing every 10 seconds. From previous tests we know that getting rid of the late deal cards would cause issues, so we decided to leave these alone.  For staff, the digital posters mean less time merchandising and more time selling; for customers it means clearer communication of our best deals.”

Thomson has won many awards for its digital posters including the ‘Best use of in-store marketing technology’ award at the Retail Systems Awards (14 November). They were also shortlisted for the World Retail Awards.
